Pinocchio

Picture
When the tree with the amazing wood falls under the storm, the poor and generous man decides to make a puppet. Pinocchio was born. But he is a naive and cruel child, who dreams of a prince's life.

Joël Pommerat revisits this popular tale by raising the issues of paternity, poverty, education and freedom.

Pinocchio is questioning our humanity:
  • How to become a human being integrated into the current society without being swallowed, crushed by it?
  • How to fight against this avalanche of consumer proposals?
  • How to resist envy? How to recognise the envy from the urge of need?
  • How not to succumb to the sweet song of the money that sings at the bottom of a pocket?
  • What are the dangers of shame, the shame of being poor, the shame of being different, the shame of not knowing how to exist?
  • Where is beauty? Can we be poor and beautiful? How important is beauty?
  • How to unravel the threads of lies and truth? What are its powers, its dangers?
  • How is education the key?
  • How is the constraint creative?
  • How to become a real child, full of a beautiful potential and respectful of our world?
